Back To Page 6 Test Results – Simulation Titles (continued) A Company of Heroes was tested using the in-game performance test. For Vista, the DX9 profile was enabled and for both OSes most options were configured with high settings. Back To Page 2 Test Results – Simulation Titles Moving onto real world applications, Microsoft’s FSX has demonstrated that sometimes stereotypes are true; in this case, that simulations have traditionally been CPU-bound in their performance characteristics. With this in mind, we didn’t think FSX, patched with SP1 and configured with high settings, would exhibit any noteworthy […]
Back To Page 1 Results – Synthetic Testing PCMark05, like all of Futuremark’s benchmark suites, is made up of a series of tests designed to stress specific subsystems, such as drive, processor, or memory performance. Since hard drive performance is largely determined by the mechanics of the drive itself, SimHQ decided to use just […]
by John Reynolds When Windows XP was released, SimHQ did an extensive test series of popular sims comparing the new OS with tried-and-true Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000 Professional, and the Windows 98 SE hybrid, “98lite”. A new age of simulations, new hardware and new OSes bring us back to the testing lab. Released on January 30th […]
Back to Page 5 Another genre of sims that compliments the ButtKicker are armor sims. The realistic sounds of Steel Beasts will make you believe you are a tanker. Again I feel like I should be smelling fumes and getting grease and dirt on my goggles (no, I don’t really wear goggles when I’m […]
Back to Page 4 And in newer sims like Lock On: Black Shark the ButtKicker will further enhance what is already one of the best study sims ever made. Yes, these are two new, never seen before screenshots. Aircraft with low-frequency, throaty engines are particularly well served by the ButtKicker. Flying the Beaver in […]
Back to Page 3 Game Time Alright, enough with this multimedia exploration; time to break out the games! I started out with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and was impressed with the added feeling of immersion you get when you get very real tactile feedback to low frequency events. Explosions, gunfire, vehicles, you name it; […]
Back to Page 2 Testing With everything connected and the amplifier powered up I first decided to test out the audio playback with some movies. The nice thing about the ButtKicker is it requires no software installation; it is just a piece of hardware and it interprets what the sound card is sending and […]
Back to Page 1 Installation The installation is quite easy and intuitive but it is probably best to follow the instructions. The basic layout is that you install a Y-cable from your AUDIO OUT and just keep your regular speaker layout connected to one side of it. The other side goes into the back […]
by Chris “BeachAV8R” Frishmuth Introduction Call me a skeptic. When I was tapped to perform this review I was a bit leery; I admit I like to review things that I enjoy and don’t take much pleasure in dedicating my time and effort to experience, then write about something I don’t like. I vaguely knew about […]
Back to Page 5 Conclusions It’s amazing how much the desktop CPU landscape has changed since this time last year, when Intel was still on the receiving end of a rather lasting pummeling from AMD’s Athlon 64 processors. With the launch of the Core 2 Duo, a design that received SimHQ’s Hardware of the […]
