Saitek Pro Flight Combat Rudder Pedals
First on the agenda was the Madcatz team, who had the Saitek Pro Flight Combat rudder pedals on display.
The Pro Flight Combat Rudder Pedals are a close replica of rudder pedals found in the F-16. At first glance the entire set is huge when compared to CH Pro Pedals. The overall width of the Pro Flight Combat rudder pedal set is 17.625”, which is 4.625” wider than CH Pro Pedals. At 5″, the metal pedals are 0.75” larger than CH Pro Pedals. They are also adjustable with three different angle positions of 40°, 55°, and 70° for user preference.
With a gap measurement of 7.25” between the pedals the stance of the pedals is fairly natural. Along with the wide stance, your heels rest on the removable base plate instead of being suspended on the pedals.
Another key feature of the Pro Flight Combat rudder pedals is that the rudder axis has adjustable damping.
The damping places a variable amount of resistance on the force required to operate the rudder pedals. This force is applied when pushing and when the pedals return to neutral. When the pedals were set at the mid-range to the highest setting, the pedals were slow to return to center due to the resistance.
Whether the damping was at the highest, mid-range or the lowest setting, the travel was smooth and the entire set remained stationary. There was absolutely no slipping across the floor under heavy use.
The overall designs of the Saitek Pro Flight Combat rudder pedals are high quality, with partial metal construction, and are relatively heavy. Saitek has released a great product for their Pro Flight family and the Pro Flight Combat rudder pedals are a welcome addition to the increasing number of flight simulation hardware options on the market.
