Benchmark Scores

The Comanche 4 benchmark demo was run with texture compression and hardware shaders enabled, and sound disabled. The Prescott core’s deeper pipelined design is not particularly fond of C4, yet the extremely CPU-bound nature of the demo’s scores could be reflective of slightly older games being impacted by the reduced IPCs (instructions per clock cycle) of the newer architecture.

C4 showed very little difference between the tested processors, though the 670 outperformed the 3.73GHz and its faster front-side bus.

Lock On: Modern Air Combat was tested using the first three minutes of the MiG-29 Intercept demo. The in-game graphics were placed at a combination of settings, with detail, scenes, and texture details at high, water at low, heat blr off, and lights and shadows at full to increase the CPU workload.

Not surprisingly, Lock On displayed very little variance in its scores between the processors, with its frame rate flattening out almost completely at the higher resolutions. Unlike Comanche 4, Lock On’s scores gave the nod to the 3.73GHz.
