I bring up BO3B return mode and vector for the ILS beacon. I do not look forward to this approach. It will be 100 percent socked in. I release Vasily at the beacon and am cleared for ILS approach in to runway 01. I descend through wet, gray cotton, breaking out of the overcast into the persistent rain at less than 600 meters altitude. Sevastopol’s lights are a very welcome sight as I slip in over the roiling black waters to the base, gently touching down on the rain-slick concrete and popping my drogue, to slow me in my headlong roll for the runway’s end. On the radio, I hear Vasily lining up, calling bingo fuel as he does so. We have cut this mission fine indeed. As I wheel into a parking space, I see his Blue 54 touch down, and he waves at me as he rolls past.
“We’ve done it again, Sacha!”
Yes. But the IRLF is still out there, and Sukhumi is still not free, our brotherly Georgian comrades are still in peril. One wonders what missions await us still.
If you’ve enjoyed following Sacha and Vasily during LOMAC Weeks, let me know in the SimHQ LOMAC Forum and perhaps we will make them a regular SimHQ feature.
