Anyone else having this problem today? Nothing has changed with my PC since last night. All my ports are as they should be. No anti-virus. No firewall. Everything was running fine last night, and I was actually starting to not be too upset with the whole login thing. But all stinking day today, I haven't been able to use it. It just keeps giving me the "Server Error" message about a minute after hitting login. I posted over on their forums, but they don't seem too inclined to respond. I've rebooted everything I can think of, but no joy. Might just have to call this game a swing and a miss.

Write rof@neoqb and tell them you have this problem, don't just post in the forum. Make sure to list your location and or IP so they have something to go on. If it's just you or a particular area we need to find out why you are having issues.

I too have been functioning just fine today.

Are you sure your 28000 UDP port is open?

The reason I ask is because I would have sworn on a stack of Gideon's that my port was open. My computer was set to automatically assign an IP address. Somehow it decided to flick from 192.168.0.3 to 192.168.0.2 and no servers were visible.

Actually DT - he needs port 443 open to connect...28000-28001 is for multiplayer. But he says it's only today...so I didn't suspect a port issue.

Yeah thanks for the ideas guys, but it's still porked. I uninstalled, deleted the folder, rebooted, reinstalled, rechecked all the ports, and still no good. Funny thing is nothing from last night to today is any different on my system. Nothing else installed or removed. Hell, I haven't even downloaded anything today. I'll wait for a reply from them, and they can't help, it'll be time to pack it in. Damn shame as I was really enjoying the game. Thanks again all. Just too damn bad they have this system.

For an outgoing authentication request, you shouldn't need to open any ports on your system. If he needs 443, then he needs 443 outgoing.

Is there a list of NeoQB server IPs around that people could try and ping or telnet at 443 to see if there are connection issues on their ISP?

After you've been flying RoF enjoyably for a couple of years this period will all seem small potatoes Komok. WW1 pilots need something about them, grit and durability. Don't give up just yet, everything can be fixed bar taxes. You might even decide that having fellow flight-sim fans supporting you helps you through this transient nightmare. Don't forget to make the ping test the Colonel is recommending above

check that your password and username is correct and check that on the RoF website your activation code is there, I think it diplays a server error when your username and password is incorrect or your activation code is incorrect or not present. Best of luck.

Just an update, I'm in email contact with neoqb and they just had me run a tracert and send them back a screenshot of the results. It looks weird to me. I get a few good hops at first, but then everything from Line 9 on goes Request Timed Out. Keep in mind, I went to bed the night before and everything was working just fine. I had no login difficulties beyond what everyone else was experiencing. I woke up yesterday morning, and all had gone horribly wrong.

Final update -

Heard back from them and they said it's something I need to take up with my service provider. Well, can't say we didn't give it the old college try. I've just requested my product return instructions from gogamer. As none of this was gogamer's fault, and they really provided a good shopping experience, I'll just go ahead and purchase some other title from them so they won't be as screwed as I was. I sure do hope neoqb wakes up and sees this sort of overly-aggressive copy-protection will cost them more than it will protect. Anyway, strike 3, I'm out. Thanks to all of you for your efforts.

That's the problem I was expecting you had, NeoQB should want to put out a list of IPs so you guys can traceroute them yourself if a problem comes up, makes diagnosis quicker.

I recently had this exact same problem between my Austrian company ISP and the Bloomberg Company (Financial Data Provider) in the USA. If the second or third hop are bad - out of maybe eight - you are so far away from home it isn't even funny to fix.

Basically I had to contact my ISP who then contacted his ISP who then contacted his parent ISP and so on - until finally the two ISPs where the interconnect failed are informed and can fix the issue. As a private customer, even as business customer, you have zero influence into these cases, since your contract is only with your ISP. And in any given worldwide connection, there are multiple companies involved - as such, multiple points of failure, and NeoQBs models assumes they are all either working correctly or quick to fix things.

Such stuff usually solves itself after 12 to 24 hours, but that's a bit long to wait.

If you're interested in that kind of game, get Arma2 from Gogamer. It comes with a simple disk check.

Very interesting stuff. I had another buddy of mine explain the whole "daisy-chain" to me just a few minutes ago. You know what's really funny, just as I was about to pull the disk out of the drive, I said why don't I give it one more try. I swear I felt like Clark Griswold when he couldn't get the Christmas lights to turn on. Santa got kicked across the yard, the reindeer got punched out, and then that very last moment of desperation when he brings the two connections together just as the wife flips the light switch, it was just like that. I hit login, and after about 10 seconds, the hanger screen came alive. I swear for a moment I heard a choir singing Hallelujah, and the room brightened. Even so, I think I've just had enough. I don't know. We'll see.

To be fair, it's only right that I make a quick follow up post. After the miracle of 30 June (when the login was suddenly successful), I have had uninterrupted service. I even had my first multiplayer experience with RoF. I must say that even though I can't stand their login system, the gameplay online was way too much fun for any one man to have. Aside from the many little gremlins that we all seem to be experiencing (control anomalies, screen flickers, etc...), it really was a blast. Although I can't honestly recommend the game in its current state, I do believe I'll follow the advice of Ming and a couple other people and just hang on to it. There's definitely potential here.
