Everyone likes a good mystery, and often times, a well-written story can serve as a sturdy backbone for a game. Those of you familiar with the lore in Frontier Development’s popular space sim Elite Dangerous will probably be familiar Elite Reclamation, the novel by Drew Wagar. In the novel, a woman named Rebecca alludes to the Formidine Rift, an area of space where something was lost. Unfortunately for Rebecca, and readers, she doesn’t remember exactly what it is because her memory is gone.
In the most recent update to Elite Dangerous, an interesting Galnet article led a group of intrepid players, the Children of Raxxla, down a path which ended in the discovery of a megaship called the Zurara. It appears that the Zurara was the “something” lost in the Formidine Rift.
While the ship’s inhabitants were no longer aboard, there were some audio logs which were recorded by Rebecca. It seems that some not-so-great stuff may have transpired on the Zurara with mentions of mad killers fueled by a mind-altering substance running amok.
Despite the Formidine Rift developments, it seems the mystery may not quite be over, as Drew Wagar hints in a follow-up forum post about the discovery.
More questions and answers are sure to come about when Elite Premonition, the sequel novel is finally released.
